Platinum Pick of the week:
49ers -7
After 7 weeks I have been 71% (5 out of 7) with my Platinum Pick
of the week. Who would have thought the 49ers would get in gear
for the Buccs game even though this game wasn't a prime time game
it might as well have been one with all the hype surrounding both
teams. Then again that’s what I get for going against one
of my rules and picking a prime time game! Ricks Rules help you
not lose! So anyway the 49ers have been getting better each week
before beating up the Buccs. Now they are going into Arizona.
Usually playing best to worst teams in back to back weeks has
a negative effect, however I don’t think the Cardinals count
in any streak. QB Jeff Garcia and WR Terrell Owens are one of
the best duos in the league and they will be facing the Cardinals.
(49ERS -7)
Gold Picks:
Cowboys +7
Ravens -1.5
Panthers +2
Patriots -5.5
* The Dallas Cowboys could be 3-3 but instead are sitting atop
the NFC east with a very impressive and shocking 5-1 record. What
does it mean to me when a team wins close games against better
opponents such as these Cowboys? It makes me think things like:
Good Special Teams, Good Intensity, and Heart. They are not the
most talented team in the league but they do the little things.
They do everything. What does this all boil down to? Bill Parcells!
What is the difference between a team coached by “the Tuna”
and a team that is not? One team is 5-1 and the other is 3-2 even
if they weren’t dominant, and even if they could have and
should have lost some of those games. Parcells has Quincy Carter
looking like a star. He is making good decisions and the Cowboys
are taking advantage of their opponent’s mistakes instead
of being taken advantage of. Their Defense is very solid and this
team makes opponents play Bill Parcells Football. Unless the Buccs
can change that, they might be the Dog Miracle pick of the week.
The Buccs always played ferocious defense and that is not the
case this season. They have looked great at times and have been
taken complete advantage of in the second half in many games this
year. This means teams are adjusting to their weaknesses and exploiting
them. The Buccs were scorched in back to back weeks by two of
the best QB-WR combos in NFL history. It was Peyton Manning &
Marvin Harrison in week 6, then Jeff Garcia & Terrell Owens
week 7. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying that Quincy Carter
and his arsenal of WRs are as potent as the before mentioned,
but they are capable of playing opportunistic ball. Parcells could
coach the Cowboys to a win but I don’t think so…even
though the Boys are rising and the Saps are falling. I like the
points on (COWBOYS +7)
* * The Baltimore Ravens have been licking their chops in anticipation
for too many games this year. The Broncos are dealing with injuries
to their #1 and #2 QB this week and will be featuring 3rd String
(non-sensation) Danny Kannell. YES THAT’S RIGHT I SAID IT.
He will be facing a scary Ravens defense in Baltimore. With injuries
all over the Broncos team they are not as solid as they should
be. The Ravens should play “Big Game” football this
week. (RAVENS +2)
* * * This week I like the Carolina Panthers going into New Orleans.
The Panthers are a very tough team and the Saints are still injured
and beaten up. Even thought the “Aints” fans think
they finally added their “S” back, I don’t think
so. They have injuries and have been totally inconsistent. Let
us not forget the "Aints" played well only against the even more
injured up Falcons defense. Aaron Brooks has been questionable
all year and will have to prove to me that he can produce and
manage a game against a tough defense. Carolina is home this week
and they are one of the toughest defenses in the league. Even
in the dome I like John Fox to pull some tricks out of his sleeve
for big sacks when they need it. At home Carolina would be a 1
point favorite. This week on the road they are a 2 point dog.
Ruff Ruff (PANTHERS +2)
* * * The New England Patriots are improving even with a list
of injuries. Bill Bellicheck finds a way to keep his team in the
game every week, and it helps that many younger players are stepping
up. They are making big plays on defense to define the games they
win. I expect the same thing every game. I expect the Patriots
to keep a lead all game and the Browns give them an opportunity
to open it up later in the game. (PATRIOTS -5.5)
