Emmitt Smith stated publicly that he fully intends to retire at age 35 and
may join buying group interested in Vikings
Emmitt Smith, one of the all time greatest running
backs in the history of the NFL and Dallas Cowboys, announced his retirement from the
game. The future Hall of Fame “LOCK” owns some of the most impressive
Pro Football career records including most NFL rushing yards (18,355), most
career NFL rush attempts (4,049), and most NFL rushing TDs (164). He is
second to only WR Jerry Rice with (21,579) total yards from scrimmage & and
(179) touchdowns. Emmitt was elected to the Pro Bowl 8 times and he won the
Superbowl MVP in 1993. He also helped his Dallas Cowboys win the Superbowl
in 1992 & 1995.
Some of the statistics Emmitt Smith and the Cowboys produced were simply
amazing. Consider not only how tough he was and how many games he played
hurt, but also how many of the important things he did on the field. Emmitt
never left anything out there. You know he always gave 110%. From 1991 through 2001 Emmitt gained over 1000 rushing yards annually &
tallied 137 total rushing TDs in the 11 year span. In 2002 that streak ended
and his numbers started to decrease. The Cowboys finally decided to go in
another direction and Emmitt was all but driven out of town. He shocked the
world and signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals shipped off Jake Plummer, brought in new head coach Dennis
Green, and seemed to be in reconstruction mode. We saw a few flashes of the
old Emmitt but the Cardinals are not exactly turning into a dynasty before
our very eyes.
Reports are consistent that Emmitt Smith is in Jacksonville this week for
Superbowl XXXIX. Apparently he has agreed in part to join an investment
group with plans to buy the Minnesota Vikings. We will update this story
when new information presents itself.
