Donovan McNabb will start the Philadelphia Eagles home opener vs San Francisco 49ers.

Donovan McNabb (bruised chest) got hit hard in the chest Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons. Not hard enough to keep him out of the game, and certainly won’t keep him from starting the home opener this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles have dropped 3 of the last 4 against the woeful 49ers.

Donovan McNabb is the focus of the Eagles offense and without him they are a completely different team. Without him they are simply not as good. McNabb practiced Friday for the second straight day and did not seem bothered by the injury. Coach Andy Reid said McNabb will start ``unless something crazy happens.'' McNabb looked healthy enough to play during running drills. He was able to drop back and make good throws. He said Thursday there was ``no doubt'' he'd start.”

Donovan added, ``I was being a little bit cautious with him yesterday and he didn't want any part of that,'' Reid said.

``He felt good and went out and made all his throws. I was not sure how he was going to do with the deep ball yesterday, but I think he answered that. He threw the ball well.'' The injury will not prevent McNabb from running. ``I don't necessarily want him to get hit there again, but if needed, he will run,'' Reid said. McNabb didn't miss any plays after a crushing hit from Chad Lavalais sent him wincing to the sideline, but he struggled the rest of the game against the Falcons. Chad was fined $7,500 for using his helmet on McNabb. The fine will be paid once, the injury may linger through the 2005 NFL football season.
