A message from The Parlay King:
The trick is grouping the teams together so that 1 team does not kill all your parlay plays. It is deeply rooted in our go for the gusto mentality to play a parlay simply because they seem so easy to hit and yet are so elusive. How many bad beat stories have you heard or do you have yourself on losing a parlay by 1 game or late in a game that was a lock at halftime. There are ways and websites like theparlayking.com that are dedicated to helping parlay betting lovers maximize their chances on becoming a winning parlay player.
There are a few basic rules and hedge opportunities that should be used to ensure one wins consistently at playing parlays. First, when placing a parlay don't get so caught up in the potential payout that you lose focus on your best teams or the teams you feel have the best chance to win; the most important rule about playing parlays is that you pick your strongest teams and don't over do it. What I mean by that is don't play a five team parlay when you really are 100% sure about only 3 teams. By adding on teams in a parlay you are lessening your odds of hitting it and doing just what the books want you to do and that is playing more teams in your parlay. Sure the most often won parlay is the 2 team play followed closely by the 3-teamer but as you add teams unless your in the midst of a run like the Rockies had at the end of their season your setting yourself up for a huge let down. Missing a parlay by 1 game is by far the worst beat in sports wagering. The sad thing is it usually happens when a player adds to many games to what could have been a winning ticket.
Often players will not use hedge strategies when placing their bets. Hedge strategies can be a parlay player's best friend. And knowing your going to hedge a parlay makes you a wiser and smarter player.
TheParlayKing.com for example will always add the Hawaii home game or the last game on the board in the NBA because we know if we win the first 3 legs of a 4 team play we can go the other way on the last pending game and lock in a profit. Granted it's not the sexiest play in the world to reduce a 10-1 payout to 5-1 but guaranteed $$ is very sweet.
Another good hedge is to play the best game inside a parlay for twice the amount this way if it hits you are assured a winning play, which is why we wager in the first place, to win and to win consistently we have to stay within ourselves and not play these plays with big eyes.
Of course its great fun to take a shot to see if you can run the table on 7 games with a 200-1 payout, but we suggest you only do it with house money already won. In the long run the more parlay picks you play naked with out a back up plan or out like the hedges discussed previously your destined to be on the losing end of most of your plays. On the other hand if you stay disciplined and stick to the basics only play 2-4 team plays, have a hedge strategy worked out before you choose the teams you stand a much greater chance of winning.
Get in a good frame of mind and do your homework or take some advice from experts. I have been playing parlays for over 20 years since the days when a push meant a loss now a push on a 3 team play means it rolls down to a 2 team play. The off shores have certainly changed the landscape and made it a much better bet than it used to be. And the most important thing I have learned in 20 years of playing primarily parlays is that its really about being disciplined, consistent and especially having a good sense of bankroll management on both side of course you should never bet over your head but on the flip side when your up big as parlay players sometimes up in a few days more than they ever have been before you have to be able to ease up, take a day off, and take that big payout instead of continuing a winning streak, because if you started with 300 and built it to 3,000 why not take down 2500 and do it again?
If you did it before chances are you can do it a gain just use the same principals and with some good judgment and a little luck anything is possible. I've seen and advised players to do just that and without a reload because they became so conservative while playing with the 3-500 bankroll that they met their goals and used the same principals to win and laid off when we didn't feel there was enough opportunity on the board, when you can turn 300 into 3,000 take out 2,500 and then take a day off instead of feeling like King Kong you really have gained a huge edge that most payer don't have. Good luck with all your parlays and may the gambling gods smile on you
